Fall 2019 Volunteer Sign Up

Dear Friends of School Fuel,

We are so excited to be starting back up for the fall 2019 semester. It is going to be an amazing year, as we are adding 3 new schools, the new elementary school, Rodriguez Elementary, and both of the middle schools, Goodnight and Miller! We will need lots of help to make this growth and transition smooth.

On top of that, we are moving buildings! Our new location will be 1331 State Hwy 123, next to Goodnight Middle School. We will be on the left side of the building, but the 1st garage door. Watch our Facebook for ways you can help with that move, we are hoping to be all moved in the week before our first packing date.

We will be letting everyone know about opportunities to help with the move and with School Fuel weekly service activities.

My Parent Commitment

Above all else, I want you to know that you are loved and lovable. You will learn this from my words and actions—the lessons on love are in how I treat you and how I treat myself.

I want you to engage with the world from a place of worthiness. You will learn that you are worthy of love, belonging, and joy every time you see me practice self-compassion and embrace my own imperfections.

We will practice courage in our family by showing up, letting ourselves be seen, and honoring vulnerability. We will share our stories of struggle and strength. There will always be room in our home for both.

We will teach you compassion by practicing compassion with ourselves first; then with each other. We will set and respect boundaries; we will honor hard work, hope, and perseverance. Rest and play will be family values, as well as family practices.

You will learn accountability and respect by watching me make mistakes and make amends, and by watching how I ask for what I need and talk about how I feel.

I want you to know joy, so together we will practice gratitude. I want you to feel joy, so together we will learn how to be vulnerable.

When uncertainty and scarcity visit, you will be able to draw from the spirit that is a part of our everyday life.

Together we will cry and face fear and grief. I will want to take away your pain, but instead I will sit with you and teach you how to feel it.

We will laugh and sing and dance and create. We will always have permission to be ourselves with each other. No matter what, you will always belong here.

As you begin your Wholehearted journey, the greatest gift that I can give to you is to live and love with my whole heart and to dare greatly.

I will not teach or love or show you anything perfectly, but I will let you see me, and I will always hold sacred the gift of seeing you. Truly, deeply, seeing you.

Brené Brown, Daring Greatly

WEEK of July 26
Christopher W. Sanchez was recently hired as the new Executive Director for Neighborhood Housing Services of San Antonio (NHSSA). NHS of San Antonio’s mission is to: “Build Successful Families and Communities through Housing Opportunities”.
Mr. Sanchez has been working in the community development
and affordable housing sector for over 20 years.
Mr. Sanchez is a man of strong faith and he has learned the importance of maintaining Christ-centered values along the way.
He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico. He is the proud grandson of former farmers from Hatch, NM and former small business owners from Las Cruces, NM. He attributes his success
to the diverse upbringing and strong values - which were instilled
in him at an early age by his mother.
Mr. Sanchez and his beautiful wife, Yvonne, are the proud parents
of 4 children and they have resided in San Antonio, Texas for the
past 11 years. They are a blended family and the heart of the family
is their 9-year-old son who had some health challenges in the beginning, but is now thriving.
to Saturday, August 10!
As our Faith in Action speaker series comes to a close this Sunday, we are inviting you to put your faith into action through prayer and reflection in August.
There will be no planned classes or activities
at 9 a.m. for the Sundays in August.
God gave the Israelites times to have the ground lay fallow in order to renew and regenerate. So take this time to renew, reflect, pray: for the vision and life of our church, as parents and families to consider how you will make choices for your time and weekly schedule as school begins. Hours can be invested or simply spent. Without prayer and reflection to listen for God’s guidance they are easily wasted on busyness. What does God have to say to you? Let’s listen.
We will continue to Eat and Greet at 10 and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at 10:30. Watch for announcements about what might happen on September 8, the Sunday after Labor Day.

Thanks be to God for a great week of VBS!

A spirit of love, cooperation and peace pervaded even in the midst of challenges. What a joy to have such a wonderful team spirit. God brought us 51 children to love on and teach encounters with Jesus. 62 adults committed their time to lead, teach, create, play, feed, register and pray!

We all fell in love with elephants and our mission project of rescuing Kenya’s baby elephants, victims of poaching and natural disasters. We gave $545.93 toward adopting these babies and we will continue the offering on Sunday.

What a great body of Christ event! Join us Sunday at 10:30 to enjoy the VBS wrap up and experience the joy.

This Sunday's speaker has been Volunteer Coordinator for Central Texas Medical Center for the past 17 years. Before that, Belinda implemented and directed a Mother’s Day Out Program, served as Director of Baptist Student Union at two Texas Junior Colleges and was on staff at First Baptist Church Midland in charge of a large preschool. Join us Sunday as she shares her journey of faith.

Fun is being outdoors for a morning walk, hiking in Texas State Parks, taking grandsons to movies and on an annual trek to Padre Island. Prince enjoys reading westerns and biographies and going to indie movies.

In 2010 he saw 104 movies in theaters. That's still his personal best.
