Parents we have shirts for all; if able please bring $15 per shirt. We also have scholarship shirts available. Rev. Gael Thompson,
Pastor for Family Life Ministry
Last Spring, we processed a new book, GROWING YOUNG: SIX ESSENTIAL STRATEGIES TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE DISCOVER AND LOVE YOUR CHURCH. Some read the book and others attended an eight-week Sunday morning study of the book.

One of the six strategies is
“Prioritize Young People [and Families] Everywhere.”

To help us focus on this strategy and be more intentional about implementing it, Gael’s title is changing from Minister of Education to Pastor of Family Life Ministry. This is a common title transition for many churches that want to grow younger and a great way to respond to the new young families we touched with our
very successful VBS this summer.

NEW Church DIRECTORY is being planned.
The collecting of updated information and photos for a 2020
Church Directory will begin in the next few weeks.
Watch for an information & photo kiosk in the foyer beginning
September 15. OR if you have information that needs to be updated please give it to Leta in the office - via email or just write it on the Welcome card and mark NEW info. Kerry Rash will be managing
the updates to the data base.

As we enter into the fall schedule, I encourage all of us to consider Mother Teresa's insight into our busyness and it's resulting consequences. Our heart and value is to love our children and create a good life. The culture around us says a good life is the best of all things materially, the best of schools, excelling athletically and academically and being involved in what will help our children get ahead. On face value, this doesn't seem to be conflict with Christian values. However, when one tries to meet the standard of "the good life" many things of value fall away: family meals with conversation, down time to think and play, choosing activities over spiritual development. In addition, exhaustion sets in and life becomes a chore with little time to renew spiritual energy and perspective. Our challenge is to make decisions out of a different set of values. Jesus said this would be hard for us, but challenged us to do it nevertheless. The results will be of eternal value.

PLUS we will be honoring 18 of our young people who are making
important transitions this year.
At 9 a.m. on the 8th we will also begin our new Sunday School classes
for youth and adults.
Adult Class - Responding to God’s Grace with
Linda Vetters - Church Parlor - open to all.
Jr. High & High School Class
How to Study the Bible, with Shawn in room #102.

There will be planned children’s activities at 9 a.m. and Bible study will continue to be during worship/Children’s Church.

WEEK of August 23

“Jesus Christ is the Word of God (John 1:1-4)

because no more comprehensive, personal, and beautiful communication of God is possible.

We cannot look directly at the sun with our eyes.

The glory of it would immediately overwhelm and destroy our sight. We have to look at it through a filter, and then we can see the great flames and colors of it. When we look at Jesus Christ as he

is shown to us in the Scriptures, we are looking at the glory of God through the filter of a human nature. That is one of the many reasons that Christians pray “in Jesus’ name.”

Through Christ, prayer becomes what Scottish Reformer John Knox called an “intimate conversation” of believers with God,

or elsewhere “a communion of humans with God”

– a two-way communicative interaction.

“For through [Christ] we…have access to the Father by one Spirit” (Ephesians 2:18).

The message this coming Sunday is titled,

“Why We Should Never Give Up on Prayer.”

  • Meals need to be for 12-15 people.
  • Suggestions are crockpot meals like chili, sloppy joes, biscuits and gravy, pulled pork sandwiches, sandwich makings, etc.
  • You can also purchase and bring things like pizza, chicken nugget platters, Subway, etc.
  • Food needs to be at the church on Tuesday by 6 p.m.

  • Food can be delivered to the far back counter in the kitchen.
  • Shawn can also take cash to use in purchasing the meal.
This is another great opportunity to prioritize our youth and let them know we care and support them.
