A Message from Rev. Terri Hord,
General Minister and President
of The Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ)

Hello Disciples. After nearly nine weeks of many of us under mandatory or voluntary quarantine, we are starting to hear word from state governors and local officials about how and when to reopen all aspects of our communities.

Church, I am concerned, because the science and the research tell us that until we have adequate testing and treatment to cure or vaccinate, it is simply not safe to gather as we have been used to gathering. It’s hard to wrap our minds around how we will live our lives as gathered communities of faith.

Everything has changed and we’re going to have to think through ways in which we can gather and be safe and for now the risk is simply too high.

As Christians we are called to love God and love our neighbor and to gather without the necessary protections in place given what we know about rising rates of infections in some parts of our country and the concerns in the medical community about the coming weeks and months, it would not only be foolish and reckless but selfish to reopen in every way too soon.

We are called to love one another as Jesus has loved us.

I hope you will be praying, and thinking, and imagining with me how we will be church in this new world. We will gather in different ways. We will minister and serve in different ways.

In this moment I pray that you will just sit and listen for wisdom. Proverbs 2 tells us to make our ear attentive to wisdom and incline to understanding.

Let’s hear from God. Let’s hear from science, and let’s give ourselves and our neighbors a chance to be safe. These are hard times. These are hard things to understand.
´╗┐
God is yet with us and I pray that together we will stand for the betterment of our entire world.

our community together.

UPDATE ON SUMMER CAMPS
Disciple Oaks Camping Family, it is with great disappointment that we inform you that Mission South Summer Camps at Disciple Oaks Camp & Retreat this year have been cancelled. Our team of summer directors and children and youth chairs have met many times over
the past month in discussion around this decision, and we are heartbroken that the safest option for all camping families
is for us to not hold camp this summer.
To all of our campers, know that we miss you, and love you,
and we can’t wait until we get to see you again. You are a very important part of our lives, and you matter to us.
Mission South Summer Directors,
Children & Youth Chairs, and Gonzo Staff
