Let’s Celebrate!

May 23 is the Day of Pentecost.

It is the birthday of the church over 2,000 years ago.

It is also the day we plan to re-enter our church sanctuary, to give thanks, to sing praise, to commune with one another.

We know the pandemic is not over. But we believe it is now possible to be together in relative safety and health, and we are longing to be together! We have been preparing the facilities for re-entry. After all, it has been over a year since we worshiped in our sanctuary.

In the meantime, here are 2 things to think about:

1. We will want to protect those most vulnerable by wearing masks, keeping safe distances and washing / sanitizing our hands. We can remove our masks once seated

for worship, including singing and communion.

Let’s try to resist touching one another. Not everyone is vaccinated yet, and not everyone is without risk.

2. Let us invite our friends and neighbors

and family—and strangers! —to join us to celebrate the blessings of God! Our sanctuary is large and our congregation is smaller, so we can safely include whoever

wants to worship with us.

20th Century German Lutheran pastor and

author Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote,

“When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die!”

Really?

That sounds a bit drastic, doesn’t it?

Why would we want to accept such a call?

What does it even mean?

And, most important, is it worth it?

This Sunday's lesson:
