From Pastor Gregory
Coronavirus Update and
First Christian Church Response
The announcement of two positive tests in Austin brings the total number of confirmed cases in Texas to at least 44 as of Friday morning (today). The largest numbers of cases have been centered in the Houston area, in North Texas and at a federal quarantine site in San Antonio.

Austin Independent School District announced that school and offices would be closed Friday, March 13, “in the interest of health safety in regard to our students and staff.” UT Austin initially said it would remain open March 13, but announced later Friday morning that it would be canceling operations and classes for the day, tweeting that “essential personnel only should work today.” St. Edward’s University, in Austin, and
the Austin Community College District made similar announcements.

Last week FCC began talking preventive measures to ensure the safety of our most vulnerable worshipers. This week we will continue this policy, with two differences:

1. We are canceling our potluck for this month. It was scheduled for this Sunday, March 15. As a precaution,
we have decided NOT to have potluck on Sunday.
2. We are offering communion this Sunday as we did last Sunday, but this Sunday we will ensure that only the person taking communion will touch the elements.

As we did last Sunday, we will continue with these additional procedures:
1. If you are feeling sick, please stay home.
2. Hugs and handshakes are discouraged.
Elbow bumps are good!
3. No hand holding for closing prayer.
4. Communion will be available with no exchange of bread
or wine by Elders or Deacons, only by each individual in plastic cups.

As we monitor developments with the virus we will take more severe precautions as needed. We will let everyone know as
we adopt new measures. Call the office or email us at
fcc@fcc-sm.org for information.

We are all in this together.
Thanks for your understanding and support.

Mendez Celebration bags:
Mendez Celebration Bags: We have returned to supplying the children a bag with a cake mix, frosting, candles, and blowers (we have plenty for now). We don’t have any supplies at this time so we need your donations. We need to fill 40 before the first of April. You can put your donations by the Mendez Celebration table in Fellowship Hall. Thank you. You truly make a difference in the lives of the Mendez families as they work together to make a cake in celebration of a birthday or other important family event.

Easter Egg Hunts: The egg hunt for our little ones up through age 4 will be on Easter Sunday morning immediately following worship. Send your child with their basket and pick them up after worship to join them in the hunt on the playground. The egg hunt for 5 year olds through 5th grade will be at our party on Thursday night, April 9.

Candy for Easter Egg Hunts: The youth will be filling 300 eggs for our 2 egg hunts this Easter. Please help us by supplying the candy. It needs to be small enough to fit in standard 2 inch eggs. Some children are allergic to nuts so keep that in mind as you purchase candy. Thank you so much for adding fun to the children’s Easter celebration.

Memorial Easter Lily Cards: If you wish to purchase a Memorial Easter Lily for the worship area, the cards will be on the Welcome Center beginning March 15 through March 29. Please fill out the card and place the payment ($10.00 for each Lily) in the envelope provided and put it in the offering plate or on the desk in the office. An insert with the names of those being remember and the names of the donors will be in the Easter Bulletin.

Save the Date:
Baby Shower for Traci and Kyle Stapp on March 29
after Sunday Celebration. It’s a girl!
They have a baby registry at BuyBuy Baby and Target.
They have a lot of 0-3 month clothes so larger sizes would
be appreciated. Gift cards and diapers
of all sizes are also appreciated.
