On the Second Sunday of Advent we light

the candle of Peace.

When the Spirit of the Lord fills us, we can have Peace, and our movement for wholeness will be grounded in justice and faithfulness. We thank God for this vision for our movement as we light the candle of Peace.

Scripture: Isaiah 11:1-10

We receive your Spirit, O God, that our hearts

might be filled with your righteousness and faithfulness. May we see and hear with your wisdom and

your Peace, and may our work together serve to bring your reign of Peace to pass.

In Christ’s name we pray. Amen

COVID-19 UPDATE, December 2

There are now 222 people reported to be hospitalized with

the virus in our five-county region.

(Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell). Austin Public Health Chief Epidemiologist says, “The next two weeks may be crucial for our community as we begin to see those

individuals that may turn up positive (as a result of

Thanksgiving holiday gatherings.)”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new guidelines saying close contact of people with COVID-19

should quarantine for 7-10 days.

You can find the specifics at the CDC website.

These new recommendations from the CDC allow local jurisdictions to assess their current situations and make recommendations based on local positivity rates, the extent of community spreading and current active cases. We are beginning to see our case counts steadily rise, just as was expected during this holiday season. Over the past three weeks, we have seen our active case counts triple and our positivity rate double. There have not been any large events or individual locations that can be identified as sources for the spike in cases, so the only determination is that we are still seeing significant community spreading occurring within our area. Based on these three factors, the Hays County Local Health Department is recommending that all Hays County residents, ISDs, and businesses continue to follow the 14-day quarantine schedule. We will continue to assess our situation and re-evaluate these recommendations based on the statistics reported to our department.
